In 1850, when the 21st century seemed inconceivably distant, the pioneering men and women who had arrived in the Salt Lake Valley only three years earlier made an investment that would outlive them all and benefit future generations. They established a university. In celebration of the University of Utah's sesquicentennial anniversary on February 28, 2000, KUED presents a one-hour special celebrating the University's history. Flagship in the Desert: 150 Years at the University of Utah highlights the university's accomplishments in research, teaching, and public service over the years. Moving chronologically through eras since the U.'s inception, the documentary takes a nostalgic look back at the great people and events that shaped the institution's legacy.
